After winning the Emerging Player award in the IPL 2024, Nitish made headlines for the Indian selectors as well as the Ajit Agarkar-led committee picked the fast-bowling all-rounder for the Zimbabwe series but his dream debut was postponed as the all-rounder was ruled out due to injury. In this exclusive interaction with IndiaToday.in, Nitish Kumar Reddy vowed to return strongly.

While talking about his maiden call-up for the Indian team and then sidelined due to injury, he said, “It is everyone’s dream to play for India. I was really close to it and then the injury came in. I don’t blame the injury as it is a part and parcel of a player’s life. So whatever happened has happened. I want to work on myself in this off-season. I am working on my shoulder and also on the sides. I felt really happy when the India call-up came but you know injuries happen. No worries, opportunities are going to come. I just want to be prepared for it.”

He also opened up about his injury details and takeaways from the T20 World Cup 2024 as well.

“I have sports hernia. It is a minor injury. They said that a surgery was not needed and I have to just take some rest and get some rehab done. I’ve been going through that, and we actually don’t know how much time it takes, but now I’m feeling much better. Better than before. At the end of the day it is my physio’s call,” he added, “I really liked Hardik Pandya’s performance. Being an all-rounder myself, I like it when an all-rounder performs, not only Hardik Pandya but also from any other teams. A lot of help came from Hardik Pandya through batting and bowling.”

He also shared his goals for the upcoming season. He stated, “Right now I’m working on this injury and my shoulder. I have a tightness problem. Things are going pretty great at the moment. I’m pretty confident that I might get some good chances as well in the future, so I have to be prepared for that as well. Whatever challenges I’m I’m going to face, I have to be prepared. I have to show trust in my bowling and batting abilities. I am confident that I will perform in whichever team I play next.”
