As India prepares for the crucial stages of the Champions Trophy, concerns have emerged over captain Rohit Sharma’s fitness. The veteran opener is reportedly nursing a hamstring injury, which he picked up during India’s high-stakes encounter against Pakistan in Dubai last Sunday. Rohit briefly left the field but later returned to open the innings, scoring a quickfire 20 off 15 balls as India chased down the target comfortably.

According to Cricbuzz, Rohit Sharma opted out of an “intense batting session” during training, choosing to rest and avoid aggravating the injury. With India already securing a semifinal spot, the team management is being cautious with their skipper, especially given the demanding matches ahead.

India’s final group-stage clash is against New Zealand on March 2, a match that will determine who tops Group A. Adding to the team’s fitness concerns, vice-captain Shubman Gill also skipped training, reportedly due to illness. Gill, who smashed a century in India’s tournament opener, preferred to stay indoors, raising questions about his availability for the upcoming match.

On a positive note, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has recovered from a brief illness and resumed batting in the nets on Wednesday. Meanwhile, senior pacer Mohammed Shami dispelled injury fears by bowling at full intensity in practice. He had earlier left the field during the Pakistan match after bowling just three overs, seemingly troubled by an ankle issue.

However, he returned later and completed his spell, reassuring fans about his fitness. With these concerns in mind, India might consider resting key players for their final group match to ensure they are fresh for the semifinals. So far, they have fielded the same playing XI in both their matches, securing six-wicket victories over Bangladesh and Pakistan.
