Rajasthan pacer Deepak Chahar has earned a maiden international call-up as Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement for the upcoming three-match T20I series against the hosts England, starting from July 3.

In the IPL 2018, Chahar impressed with his bowling performances where he picked up a total of 10 wickets for the champion team Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

It helped him to get a chance in India A for the ongoing tri-series in England where he has performed very well and has taken eight wickets in four games including the best performance in the tournament – 5/27.

These performances helped him to earn a call for the national squad.

However, first time, the right-arm pacer came into the limelight during his debutant first-class game against Hyderabad at Jaipur in 2010/11 Ranji Trophy. On the very first day, his team Rajasthan bowled out Hyderabad for just 21 runs as 18-year-old Chahar had a remarkable bowling figure of 7.3-2-10-8. It was the lowest total in Indian domestic cricket.

He had also taken 4 wickets in the second innings as his team won the match by an innings and 256 runs and he had been elected for Player of the Match award. It was the remarkable season for Rajasthan who had won their maiden Ranji trophy.

While he had a dream first-class debut, he suffered from several injuries that forced him to get out of touch. He mentioned that those days were difficult, but now he knows how to make a comeback from the injuries.

Prior to the leaving India for England series, Chahar told Sportstar, “Those days were difficult. But in the last few years, I have had too many injuries, so I know how to come back. Earlier, the injury woes would upset me, but now I know how to deal with them. The mind works differently in those times.

“When I get injured, I obviously think what is next and when would I come back. Interestingly, this time when I picked up the injury during the IPL, I told the physio that it would take two weeks to recover. Next day, when I went for the MRI, it was revealed that it would indeed take two weeks to recover. So, I exactly know how to bounce back.”

Chahar is also impressed with MS Dhoni’s grooming style for the young players. During the IPL 2018, the right-arm pacer played under the former Indian captain as Dhoni was the captain of CSK.

Chahar said about Dhoni, “There is a thing about Dhoni bhaiya which is unique. He grooms the players. He used me more with the new ball. I had even asked him the reason behind not using me in the death overs, and he said that one should improve slowly. That’s something he practised on the field as well.”
