India will be locking horns against the West Indies for three ODIs and it will be followed by a 3-match T20I series. The ODI series is scheduled to be commencing on February 6 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. All the three ODIs of this series will be played in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium behind closed doors, and the T20Is will be played at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata with a 75 percent crowd attendance.

Earlier, the entire tour was scheduled to be played at 6 different venues but due to the recent rise in the Covid cases in India, the BCCI decided to restrict the tour just to two venues – Ahmedabad and Kolkata. The West Indies side will be led by the experienced Kieron Pollard. They have recalled Kemar Roach, Nkrumah Bonner, and Brandon King into the ODI squad for the India tour. They are currently standing 8th on the ICC Men’s ODI rankings.

On the other hand, Rohit Sharma will be making his full-time captaincy debut for the Indian team. India was jolted with a Covid outbreak where four players – openers Shikhar Dhawan and Ruturaj Gaikwad, middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer and net bowler Navdeep Saini – all tested positive along with a few support staff. These two sides have locked horns with each other 133 times in the ODIs, where India won 64 games while the West Indies are just one short of India.

India

As Rohit Sharma said in the presser, “Ishan Kishan is the only option we have and he will open”. Meanwhile, Mayank Agarwal, who has been added to the squad, is still undergoing mandatory quarantine. India would perhaps ease Kuldeep back into the mix. Meanwhile, Deepak Hooda could earn his ODI cap.
