During the 16th match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Kings XI Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad at Mohali, Universe Boss Chris Gayle started the innings on a positive note for his team. Opening the batting with Lokesh Rahul, both the batsmen remained unbeaten throughout the powerplay.

Ravichandran Ashwin, captain of Kings XI Punjab, had won the toss and chose to bat. Seldom has any captain taken the decision of winning the toss and choosing to bat in this season of the IPL. Punjab has played an unchanged playing eleven. On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad brought Chris Jordan in place of Billy Stanlake.
