During the 19th match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Daredevils at Bengaluru, a comedy of errors took place in the middle between AB de Villiers and Corey Anderson before the latter made his way back to the pavilion.

After Virat Kohli sent the Daredevils in to bat, the visitors scored 174-5 on the back of Rishabh Pant’s fourth IPL half-century in their allotted quota of 20 overs. Royal Challengers Bangalore did not start their chase in the best possible way as they lost Manan Vohra (2) in the second over.

It happened on the fourth delivery of the 16th over when AB de Villiers played a Chris Morris delivery to Gautam Gambhir at backward point. In a bid to run the single, Anderson had left his crease by a large distance. That being said, de Villiers was not at all interested in the run.

Anderson was bowled by Boult.

Just when Anderson realised this, he ran back towards the non-striker’s end. By this point in time, even de Villiers had left his crease. As a result, both the batsmen were left stranded on one end. Had the throw by Gambhir been of a better quality than the running, a wicket would have fallen amidst this mayhem. After Morris missed the throw, some sense prevailed and both batsmen ran safely towards their end.

The Daredevils finally got the wicket which they were looking for on the following delivery as Anderson’s wild swing saw him losing his off-stump against his Kiwi teammate Boult. He ended up scoring 15 (13) with the help of one six.
