Playing under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, Delhi Daredevils completed a spectacular win against Kolkata Knight Riders who returned to IPL action after five days. Playing at the home ground, Delhi Daredevils batted first and made a humongous total with Prithvi Shaw and Shreyas Iyer leading the way. Kolkata could not cope up and faded away in the impossible chase.

Andre Russell got dismissed soon after

Chasing 220 runs, Kolkata Knight Riders needed an incredible start from the openers Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine. Both the big hitters needed to be at their best. However, Chris Lynn perished as Maxwell managed to sneak one below his bat and got the fellow Aussie bowled. Sunil Narine looked in the mood to smash big and soon raced to 26 runs 8 balls with three sixes.

The onslaught did not continue and Trent Boult dismissed him with a short ball. Boult sent back Robin Uthappa in the same over and KKR now stood at 33/3. Nitish Rana and Dinesh Karthik could not score big tonight and KKR dismantled to 77/5.

All the hopes were now on Andre Russell. He started in his very own style and started hitting big sixes. In one over of Avesh Khan, Russell muscled two consecutive sixes and the chase was suddenly alive. With Gill blossoming from the other end, the improbable started happening.

On the third ball of the 16th Over, Russell slashed a ball straight to point. Gill called for a single not realizing that it had gone to one of the quicker fielders, Shreyas Iyer. He returned it quickly and Gill was caught short of the crease. The run-out crashed even the little hopes that were there.

Soon, Russell also failed to connect and was out after much despair. KKR crashed to a loss of 55 runs. Delhi Daredevils finally moved upwards on the points table.
