Another rain-affected match between the Delhi Daredevils and Rajasthan Royals took place at the Feroz Shah Kotla. Their previous encounter was also marred by rain but at that time it helped Rajasthan, tonight it went against them. After DD bashed 196/6 in 17.1 overs, RR was set to chase 152 runs from 12 overs.

Jos Buttler

With such stiff ask ahead, Rajasthan fiddled with their usual opening combination and sent out out-of-color Jos Buttler and returning D’Arcy Short to open the innings. The plan worked like a masterstroke and Rajasthan began the chase with 14 runs in the first over itself.

Jos Buttler, who had not impressed so far in the season batting low, batted in another gear while batting at the top. His watershed moment came in the third over. Buttler smashed three sixes and one boundary on the bowling of Avesh Khan. He took the assault to Plunkett and Mishra and completed the fastest fifty for RR (18 balls).

The turning point of the match was the 7th over. After six overs, RR stood at 79/0 and needed further 72 runs from the remaining six overs. D’Arcy Short was struggling terribly in the run-chase and was batting on 11 from 12 balls. Amit Mishra bowling with all his guile gave only three singles on the first three balls.

With the match slipping through the hands, desperate Jos Buttler charged at Mishra and got stumped. Buttler was out after a whirlwind 67 runs from 26 balls with seven sixes. His dismissal slowed down the innings and increased the difficulties for RR. The over went for just four runs.

Short redeemed himself later by hitting three consecutive sixes off the Maxwell’s over. Tripathi and Gowtham tried their best in the end but the target was too tall to scale. Delhi Daredevils won the match by 4 runs.
