IPL 2018: One Year Doping Ban Made Him More Humble Says Andre Russell

One of the best all rounder of shortest format of the game is the Jamaican storm, Andre Russell. He was a part of Kolkata Knight Riders team but couldn’t participate last year due to doping issue. But this year he made his arrival in a grand way after he was retained by team management. The result being a bashing inning of 88 runs for Kolkata Knight Riders against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk stadium.

Russell became the only batsman to score such runs playing down 7th in the team with a huge strike rate of 244. Kolkata put up a huge total of 200 plus runs on board but still lost to Chennai on their first home match. But the crowd got a taste of Russell Rampage.

Following WADAs doping test, Russell was banned from participating in any form of cricket for a year. He then made a comeback by playing in Pakistan for Pakistan Premier League. But after first few games, he was unable to continue pertaining to his hamstring injury. According to the Indies star, he has learnt a lot in this years.

“I think this one year I lost has made me a different person. I have learned how to be humble. I need to make sure that you stay on top of what you are doing as a professional and yet be humble. I just want to ensure that these things don’t happen again,” said Russell to News 18.

Russell did play the finest innings of his career with his highest IPL score against CSK. He believes that for laying an innings you need to believe in yourself and have determination. He also expressed his longingness to continue his banter for KKR and to be in a good fitness regime.

“I think I am confident. My confidence level is very high. Once you have confidence in whatever sport you play that’s all you need, that self-belief. But I think, I am in good condition. I wouldn’t say that I am 100 percent fit. I am happy that I am hitting well and bowling with pace. So I know in a few more games, I will be where I want to be,” he concluded.
