When T20 cricket arrived into the mainstream, few of the cricket fanatics cried over the imminent death of the Spin bowling in cricket. The argument was that with the batsmen trying to whack the ball out of the ground on every opportunity and spinners will be an easy target. The ill-balanced game may remove the breed of spinners. Luckily, this has not happened, instead, we have seen spinners frequently leading the wickets tally.

This IPL, the tracks have been largely batting-friendly. In some cases, where low-scores were recorded, the pitch was more helpful to the pace bowlers rather than spin. Despite this, we have a spinner sporting the purple call at this moment. Here are the top-five spinners from the IPL 2018 so far –

5. Rashid Khan –

If you look at the tally of top wicket-takers in this IPL, you will not find Rashid Khan’s name anywhere in the top-10. You will not find the word ‘Rashid’ even in the top 20 bowlers. In this season, the afghan leg-spinner is actually languishing at the 27th spot with only two wickets so far.

However, his real impact is observed when you look at the economy tally. In the first match against RR, he bowled 11 dot balls in his four overs taking the wicket of Jos Buttler. he was Man of the Match, for his outstanding performance versus Mumbai where he bowled a record 17 dot balls.

In the three matches so far, Rashid Khan has conceded 67 runs in 72 balls bowled. The batsmen are still struggling to pick him and are playing him with lots of caution.
