IPL 2018: Hardik Pandya tees off strongly after being given a reprieve

During the 14th match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore at Mumbai, Mumbai Indians’ Hardik Pandya finished the innings on a high note for his team after being given a reprieve on the first ball that he faced.

After being put in to bat by Virat Kohli, Mumbai Indians scored a bumper 213-6 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. The foundation of the score was laid by a 108-run partnership for the third wicket between Evin Lewis and Rohit Sharma. Captain Rohit Sharma ended up top-scoring with 94 (52). His innings comprised of 10 fours and five sixes.

Hardik Pandya, who came in to bat at No. 7 in the penultimate over, was given a reprieve on the first ball that he faced. On his very first ball, Pandya was beaten all ends up by a Chris Woakes delivery. The umpire ruled him out caught behind, but Pandya decided to review the decision.

Replays showed that Pandya had edges the ball. To everyone’s surprise, Pandya was adjourned not out by the third umpire. Pandya counted on the opportunity by hitting a couple of sixes off Woakes on the next two balls. The first one was hit over the deep square leg fielder, while the second one came through the long-off region. Pandya also hit a four off Corey Anderson on the last delivery of the match. He ended up scoring 17* (5) with the help of one four and two sixes.
