During the 32nd match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Delhi Daredevils (DD) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Delhi, Rajasthan Royals’ Jos Buttler got the better of Avesh Khan after he hit him for 23 runs in his first over.
After Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and put the Daredevils in to bat, the home team scored 196-6 in 17.1 overs before rain disturbed their first innings to the extent that it had to be brought to a halt with five deliveries remaining. The revised target for the Royals was 151 runs from 12 overs.
In a bid to chase down the target, Rajasthan Royals sent a fresh opening pair of D’Arcy Short and Buttler. Buttler had batted down the order throughout the season, so for him it was a promotion in the batting order. Buttler took on the opposition bowlers from the first over. His whirlwind innings was seen shifting gears from the third over the innings.
Avesh Khan was called in to bowl first change. So far, he has had a decent IPL and perhaps this is the first time that he has been taken for runs. On the first ball of the over, Buttler hit a fuller delivery back over the bowler’s head for a six.
Buttler’s innovation saw him scooping the next ball for another six over the wicket-keeper’s head. A delivery later, Buttler opened up to hit a towering six over deep midwicket. Avesh Khan reduced the length of the ball on the next delivery, but Buttler ended up hitting it over point for a four to accumulate 23 runs from the over.
