IPL 2018: Kolkata Knight Riders lose their openers cheaply

During the 37th match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Mumbai, chasing 182 runs to win the match, Kolkata Knight Riders lost their openers without contributing much.

Shubman Gill’s dimissal

After Dinesh Karthik won the toss and put the home team in to bat, Mumbai Indians scored 181-4 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. Their innings was powered by Suryakumar Yadav’s fifth IPL half-century, fourth of this season. He ended up scoring 59 (39) with the help of seven fours and two sixes.

In the second innings, Kolkata Knight Riders sent Shubman Gill in to open the innings alongside Chris Lynn. Mitchell McClenaghan opened the bowling for the hosts. On the first delivery of his second over, Gill hit a flat-batted four past the bowler. Later in the over, Lynn hit two consecutive fours to make an impression in the powerplay.

On the following ball, Lynn hit another short ball straight to Jasprit Bumrah at short fine leg as McClenaghan got his first wicket. Lynn ended up scoring 17 (13) with the help of four fours. Watch the video:

Hardik Pandya was introduced into the attack as the first change bowler in the next over. On the first delivery, Gill hit a slower delivery high in the air, which was eventually caught by Krunal Pandya at mid-off.
