Mumbai Indians pulled off a stunning win over Kings XI Punjab at the Holkar Stadium, Indore. The Mumbai team chased off the target of 175 with ease as Pandya brothers and Rohit Sharma combined their power. The ferocious hitting from Krunal Pandya got Mumbai home with 6 balls remaining.
Earlier in the night, on the smallish ground of Holkar Stadium, Indore, Mumbai Indians managed to keep the batting heavy Punjab team down to 174/6. With the batting line-up that Punjab boasted they were definitely good, 20 runs short on this pitch but it was Stoinis who got them this far. Mumbai bowlers contained the batting well but they lost it in the last over going for 22 runs.
Start from Mumbai was quiet with Lewis struggling to hit hard. Surya Kumar Yadav riding on the superb form that he has been having in the season, scored a brilliant half-century to take Mumbai closer. Once Surya got out, Rohit promoted Hardik Pandya and the move worked. Pandya started hitting big and scored a quick 23 from 13 balls.
The turning point of the match arrived with Rohit Sharma and Krunal Pandya was at the crease and they needed 36 runs from the last 18 balls. Ashwin did not have any good option and handed the over to Marcus Stoinis. The second ball of the over, Rohit Sharma drove it for a boundary and took a single on the next ball.
Next three balls changed the match for Mumbai. Krunal Pandya took the challenge and killed the chase in those three balls. He scored four, four and a six from the three deliveries and the target suddenly was reduced to a cakewalk of 16 runs from 12 balls.
Mumbai needed only six balls to complete the win. Krunal Pandya ended with a bludgeoning inning of 31 from 12 balls to script a magnificent win for Mumbai Indians.
