During the 22nd match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Delhi Daredevils (DD) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at Delhi, Liam Plunkett made his IPL debut. Included in the squad as the injury replacement for Kagiso Rabada, Plunkett bowled a high-yielding spell for his team.

At the toss, Gautam Gambhir had asked Kings XI Punjab to bat first. Battling poor form, the Daredevils made as many as five changes. Jason Roy, Chris Morris, Vijay Shankar, Shahbaz Nadeem and Harshal Patel were replaced by Prithvi Shaw, Daniel Christian, Liam Plunkett, Amit Mishra and Avesh Khan. On the other hand, Punjab had brought in David Miller in place of Chris Gayle.

Liam Plunkett had a stellar debut.

Plunkett, who bowled first change in the fifth over, made early inroads after taking the wicket of Lokesh Rahul (23) on his third ball. Apart from taking the wicket, Plunkett gave a paltry six runs in the powerplay, a number any captain would love to accept in this format.

Plunkett bowled his second over from the other end, the eight of the innings. He dismissed another Karnataka batsman on the third ball of his over as Mayank Agarwal (21) played a terrible shot across the line. Another batsman from Karnataka, Karun Nair (34), looked set to play the big ones in the 17th over. However, Plunkett deceived him with a slower delivery and dismissed him on the first ball of the over.

Bowling his last over, the penultimate of the innings, Plunkett gave away just six runs as he completed match figures of 4-0-17-3.
