The Indian team victory in the World Cup 1983 boosted the game of cricket in India like never before. The phenomenon of Tendulkar expanded the fan base further. Now how would a cricket association which has the masterminds of making money from air could let go of such an opportunity. Cashing in on the new-found short love, BCCI first strangled the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL) and started its own cricketing league in grander and more magnificent way.

The greatest brainchild of BCCI made its debut in 2008, known as the Indian Premier League. It brought various franchises in the game and the money poured in faster than if it had rained from the sky. The Indian middle-class watched in awe as crores were splurged to have a cricketer play for just three months.

The 32-year old left-handed explosive opener has played in every edition of the IPL so far. He started off by playing for his home team, Delhi Daredevils. Dhawan delivered in that season was picked up by the Mumbai Indians for 2nd and 3rd IPL season.

In 2013, a new franchise entering the IPL , Sunrisers Hyderabad bought Shikhar Dhawan and instilled him as the team captain. Dhawan kept his place as the opener after Warner succeeded as the captain and is one of the top openers in the league currently, He has earned 59.7 crores from the IPL so far.

9. Robin Uthappa

Another batsman who has been part of all the IPLs so far is Robin Uthappa. He played 46 ODIs and 13 T20Is for India while the number of IPL matches played by him is 143. He played for the richest franchise in the first IPL – Mumbai Indians.

Uthappa then played for his home team RCB for the next two seasons. Before settling into Kolkata Knight Riders team for the last five seasons, he played briefly for Sahara Pune Warriors. Uthappa has gained 65.9 crores from the IPL.
