During the 25th game of IPL 2018 between the hosts Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and the visitors Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at Hyderabad on Wednesday night, KXIP cricketer Manoj Tiwary showed a wired bowling action for which he got trolled on Twitter.
Though he is known as an effective leg-spinner, Bengal cricketer Tiwary chose to bowl in this game as off-spinner with a round-arm action. That action was similar to Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga, which was recently tried by another Indian off-break bowler Kedar Jadhav during the recent international cricket matches. Tiwary’s action was very low round-arm action but that was not much succeeded in that game as he conceded 10 runs in that over. He didn’t get any other over to bowl in that game.
However, it was not the first time when he has been seen to bowl in this action. Recently, in domestic cricket, he used this action and also got some success on it. Here is the video of 2018 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy between Baroda and Bengal in early January, when Tiwary bowled with the similar action and had a bowling figure of 3-0-25-2.
Manoj Tiwary clarified his new bowling action as he told Indianexperss in an interview before the game, “I have developed a unique round-arm technique that may come handy for the team when required. I am pretty sure that people will be surprised with my bowling performance. I have started bowl with a pretty low round-arm action and it is not easy for batsmen to hit. I have been pretty successful and economical with it in regional T20 tournaments where pitches have been slow. So yes I am hoping to do well with it.”
Playing his first game in this IPL season, Tiwary didn’t get much success. After having 1-0-10-0 bowling figure, he scored only 1 run before getting caught out. Despite SRH scored only 132 runs (132/8) in 20 overs, they won the game by 13 runs as KXIP was bowled out for just 119 runs in 19.2 overs.
While Tiwary’s new bowling action didn’t work in his first game of IPL 2018, twitteries trolled him very much for his new bowling action.
