Kolkata Knight Riders in a poor showing tonight failed to defeat the visitors as Sunrisers Hyderabad continued with their brilliant run in the IPL 2018. Despite a little struggle in the initial phase of chasing SRH managed to home with five wickets remaining in the bag. This is their first win at the Eden Gardens in the IPL. Here is the turning point for the match.

Andre Russell got out early tonight

Tonight Kolkata Knight Riders were at 86/4 in the 13th over. In walked Andre Russell. Before we see what he did in this match, let’s have a little recap.

In the last match against Chennai Super Kings, KKR were struggling at 89/5 at the half-way stage of the match. In walked Andre Russell. He consolidated alongside Dinesh Karthik for a few overs and waited to understand the game conditions and how the ball was coming onto the bat.

Once his eye got settled, Dre Russ became unstoppable for the men in yellow. Russell smacked every bowler that came his way and was particularly lethal against his teammate Dwayne Bravo, he hit Bravo for six sixes. Russell that night ended up with 11 sices and at a daunting score of 88*. He single-handedly took KKR above 200.

Tonight against the Sunrisers bowling his approach was different though. He played his first three balls against Shakib with caution. Went after Stanlake on his first ball and earned a six. Tried same on the next ball and got out caught. Russell out for 9 from 5 balls.

Russell is one big hitter that KKR depends heavily on. His dismissal rocked the chances of the big score which ultimately led to the loss. His wicket became the turning point in the match.
