Hosts Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured a big 71-run victory against Delhi Daredevils (DD) in the 13th game of IPL 2018 which was played at Eden Gardens (Kolkata) on Monday night.

Delhi Daredevils

Delhi decided to bowl first after winning the toss. KKR managed to put 200/9 in 20 overs which was replied by DD with just 129 all-out in 14.2 overs.

Now, we will talk about the reason for losses of Delhi Daredevils.

Andre Russell’s firing knock

The Caribbean all-rounder punished the Delhi bowlers in his short innings that snatched away the match from Delhi side. Russell missed the chance of breaking the fastest IPL fifty record that has been done by KL Rahul (Kings XI Punjab) in the second match of this season in 14 balls, as the right-handed batsman was bowled after scoring 41 runs in just 12 balls with 6 sixes. His knock changed the momentum of the match so quickly that Delhi failed to make a comeback in the game.

Lack of using spinners

While the hosts KKR was effective and successful with the spinners,  Delhi skipper Gautam Gambhir used only 7 overs with the spinners. Gambhir used Shahbaz Nadeem (4-0-43-1) and Rahul Tewatia (3-0-18-3) as spinners while he had also Glen Maxwell who could be used in the tough period. Delhi pacers bowled total 13 overs where they claimed total 5 wickets and conceded total 135 runs with the 10.38 economy rate.

Top-orders’ early dismissals

While DD had a target to chase 201 runs, their top three batsmen were sent back to the pavilion in the first three overs. In the first over of the second innings, opener Jason Roy was stumped out for just 1 run.

No.3 batsman Shreyas Iyer, who had scored just 4 runs, was the next batsman to be dismissed in the second over of that innings.

Skipper and another opener Gautam Gambhir was the next man to depart after scoring just 8 runs.

Teams always need a good start to successfully chase a big total and Delhi totally failed on that which has been expressing from their total.
