Kolkata Knight Riders coasted to a clinical win against Rajasthan Royals by a margin of seven wickets. Chasing 161 to win, KKR never looked threatened after they had lost the wicket of Chis Lynn in the first over itself. Robin Uthappa top-scored with 48 while Dinesh Karthik quickened the victory process with 45 not out from 23 balls.
The turning point of the match arrived after the dismissal of Chris Lynn. The Jaipur pitch is different than other pitches that are found in the country. The home team Rajasthan Royals also do not possess any very good spinner nor do they have batsmen who play spin really well. The consequence was that they had to prepare a fast track.
This move was going to help few of the Kolkata batsmen too. The greatest beneficiaries were suspected to be Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine. K.Gowtham who was introduced as early as the first over, knocked over Lynn asap. Lynn was out on the third ball. KKR’s chase could have gotten complicated after that.
KKR captain Dinesh Karthik sent Sunil Narine up at the number three. Narine had been smacked for the most expensive bowling spell of his IPL career earlier in the night. He made immense while batting as he started timing the ball regularly over the boundary ropes. Sunil Narine smashed 35 from 25 balls with 5 boundaries and a single six.
Robin Uthappa watching Narine from the other end also started opening up his hands and started attacking the hapless Rajasthan bowling. The partnership between Narine and Uthappa accounted for 69 runs in 51 balls. The pace provided was enough for KKR to see through the chase. The required run-rate was well below the run-rate. The partnership proved out to be the turning point of the match.
