On Thursday night, hosts Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) clinched a comfortable 15-run victory against the in-form team Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium (Mohali, Chandigarh).

KXIP captain Ravichandran Ashwin decided to bat first after winning the toss. Thanks to Chris Gayle’s superb century knock, KXIP put 193/3 on the board at the end of 20 overs.

In reply, SRH was restricted for 178/4 in 20 overs as KXIP won this match by 15 runs.

  • It was Chris Gayle’s 6th IPL century which is also most in IPL history. The next is 4 IPL centuries by Virat Kohli.
  • Highest IPL knock by any batsman against SRH. The previous record holder was Brendon McCullum (Chennai Super Kings) with 100* at Chennai on April 11, 2015.

 

iii) KXIP batsman Chris Gayle hit 11 sixes in this innings.

  • Most sixes hit in an IPL innings by any KXIP batsman. The previous record was hitting 9 sixes in an IPL innings (Adam Gilchrist, Glenn Maxwell and David Miller had achieved that once).
  • Most sixes hit in an IPL innings by any batsman against SRH. The previous record was hitting 9 sixes in an IPL innings against them (Glenn Maxwell, Brendon McCullum and David Miller had achieved that once).

 

iv) KXIP batsmen Chris Gayle and Karun Nair put a brilliant 85-run partnership for the third wicket.

  • Highest third wicket IPL partnership for any team against SRH. The previous record was the 78-run partnership between Robin Uthappa and Manish Pandey (Kolkata Knight Riders) at Hyderabad on April 30, 2017.
  • KXIP’s second highest IPL partnership for any wicket against SRH. The record is the 91-run partnership for the second wicket between Wriddhiman Saha and Manan Vohra at Hyderabad on May 14, 2014.

 

v) KXIP put a big total of 193/3 in 20 overs.

  • The second highest IPL total for KXIP against SRH. The record is 211/4 (18.4 overs) at Hyderabad on May 14, 2014.

 

vi) SRH leg-spinner Rashid Khan had very expensive bowling figure of 4-0-55-1 with 13.75 economy rate.

  • In an IPL innings, Ashwin became the second most runs conceding bowler for KXIP against SRH while Mohit Sharma became the third most runs conceding bowler for KXIP against SRH. The record holder is Sandeep Sharma with 4-0-65-1 bowling figure at Hyderabad on May 14, 2014.
