The hosts Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) suffered a thrashing defeat against the visiting team Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on Saturday rain-interrupted evening at Eden Gardens (Kolkata).

KXIP decided to field first after winning the toss. The hosts put 191/7 on the board at the end of 20 overs. In reply, KXIP openers KL Rahul and Chris Gayle began the innings in a stormy way. Before the rain interruption, KXIP was on 96/0 in 8.2 overs.

Later, the match restarted with the new 125 runs target in 13 overs for KXIP which they chased down in 11.1 overs after losing only one wicket. KXIP won the match by 9 wickets with 11 balls to spare.
