In the 22nd match of IPL 2018, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) secured a superb thrilling victory in the low-scoring game against the hosts Delhi Daredevils (DD) at Feroz Shah Kotla (Delhi) on Monday night. KXIP put a total of 143/8 in 20 overs while DD was restricted on 139/8 at the end of 20-over as KXIP won by 4-run.

Delhi Daredevils again disappointed as they failed to chase a low target in their home game

Delhi captain Gautam Gambhir decided to field first after winning the toss. While in-form KXIP opening batsman Chris Gayle missed the game due to little injury, KXIP batsmen failed to fulfil his place. None of KXIP batsmen played a big knock as the visiting team was far away for a good total. While Karun Nair was the highest scorer in that innings with 34 runs, three more KXIP batsmen crossed 20-run mark but failed to play the long innings.

Opener KL Rahul scored 23 runs while Mayank Agarwal and David Miller managed to score 21 and 26 runs respectively. As a result, KXIP put a total of 143/8 in 20 overs.

Among the DD bowlers, Liam Plunket bowled brilliantly as his bowling figure was 4-0-17-3. Also, Trent Boult (2/21) and Avesh Khan (2/36) picked up two wickets each while Daniel Christian (1/17) got one wicket.

However, DD had not a smooth chase as they were losing the wickets regularly. When Shreyas Iyer played the responsible innings till the end of the game, most of the other batsmen failed to put a mark.

While young opener Prithvi Shaw began the innings with blistering 22-run knock off just 10 balls, other top-order batsmen failed to carry that innings apart from Shreyas Iyer.

Iyer played a responsible knock of 57 runs off 45 balls with 5 fours and 1 six. In the lower middle-order, he got a good support from Rahul Tewatia (24 runs) but just failed to reach the target.

In the last over, the hosts needed to score 17 runs which they failed as they were just 4-run short of KXIP’s total.

Among the KXIP bowlers, Ankit Rajput (2/23), Andrew Tye (2/25) and Mujeeb Ur Rahman (2/25) grabbed two wickets each while Barinder Sran (1/45) also got a wicket.
