In the 26th game of IPL 2018, hosts Delhi Daredevils (DD) clinched a big 55-run victory against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Feroz Shah Kotla on Friday night. While DD put a big total of 219/4 in 20 overs, KKR was restricted for just 164/9 at the end of 20 overs.
KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik decided to field first after winning the toss. Delhi franchise had a good start as their opening batsmen provided 59-run partnership for the first wicket. The hosts scored 57/0 at the end of the powerplay.
After opener Colin Munro was dismissed for 33 runs off 18 balls, young Prithvi Shaw got support from the new skipper Shreyas Iyer. Both put another great 68 runs partnership for the second wicket. Before getting out, Prithvi scored a brilliant 62 runs off 44 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes.
Later, captain Shreyas Iyer took the responsibility to secure a good total for the team. After completing his third consecutive half-century in this IPL season in just 29 balls, he bashed the visiting bowlers hugely. The 23-year-old right-handed batsman was not out at the end with 93 runs off 40 balls. Also, Glenn Maxwell added an important 27 runs off 18 balls at the end while he put a 73-run partnership with the skipper for the fourth wicket.
In the last over, KKR young pacer Shivam Mavi conceded total 29 runs while Shreyas scored 28 runs in that over. As a result, DD put a big total of 219/4 at the end of 20 overs.
Among the KKR bowlers, Piyush Chawla (1/33), Shivam Mani (1/58) and Andre Russell (1/28) got one wicket each.
In reply, KKR top-orders fell quickly which made their work toughest. While opener Sunil Narine had a fast knock of 26 runs off just 9 balls, Shubman Gill and Andre Russell fought hard at late but failed to reach the close of the target. Young Shubman scored 37 runs 29 balls (3 fours and only six) and Russell played a 44-run innings off just 30 balls (3 fours and 4 sixes) as KKR finished the innings with 164/9 at the end of 20 overs.
