During the 29th match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Bengaluru, Kolkata Knight Riders beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 6 wickets to register their fourth win of the season.
After Dinesh Karthik won the toss and put the opposition in to bat, Royal Challengers Bangalore scored 175-4 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. Their innings was powered by captain Kohli’s 33rd IPL half-century, without which they wouldn’t have reached this target.
In the second innings, the Knight Riders appeared to be in sync with the target throughout the chase. Despite losing wickets, they never really lost track of the chase. Eventually, they ended up scoring 176-4 in 19.1 overs.
Now, we will look at the hits and flops players in this match.
Hits
Virat Kohli (RCB) – It was another of those days when Virat Kohli tried his best in the IPL, but received no support from the other end. Coming in to bat at No. 3 in the ninth over, Kohli scored 68* (44) with the help of five fours and three sixes. He played an instrumental role in his team posting a handsome total.
Chris Lynn (KKR) – Apart from winning the match, what must have pleased the Knight Riders’ camp would have been the sight of Chris Lynn being amongst the runs. Opening the batting with Sunil Narine, Lynn scored his fifth IPL half-century, 62* (52), with the help of seven fours and a six. He was adjourned the ‘Man of the Match’.
Dinesh Karthik (KKR) – Since the last month or so, Dinesh Karthik has donned the finisher’s role with full perfection. Coming in to bat at No. 6 in the 17th over, Karthik scored a game-changing 23 (10) with the help of two fours and a six.
Flops
Manan Vohra (RCB) – With scores of 2 and 0 (tonight) in the two matches that he has played, Manan Vohra has had a poor start to this season of IPL. He came in to bat ahead of Mandeep Singh at No. 4 in the 10th over but ended up playing a sole delivery, which he inside edged to his stumps.
Mitchell Johnson (KKR) – Mitchell Johnson was introduced into the attack as the first change bowler in the powerplay. Johnson did not have the best of matches as he leaked runs, far too many at those. Not bowling his full quota, he ended up with match figures of 3-0-38-0.
Umesh Yadav (RCB) – Opening the bowling for his team alongside Tim Southee, Umesh Yadav failed to stand tall on the expectations. His team was in desperate need of wickets with the new ball, which he did not provide. He ended up with match figures of 3.1-0-36-0.
