Kolkata Knight Riders emerged winners in the rain-hit T20 match at the Chinnaswamy Stadium as they defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by seven wickets. Virat Kohli played the lone hand and single-handedly took the RCB score to 175. KKR did not have much problem in the chase as Chris Lynn was there throughout the chase and he became the man around whom the batting revolved. RCB had the chance to get him early though.
The turning point of the match arrived in the second innings of the match. Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn began the reply in their own style. After the quiet first over, Narine struck a six and four to start off Umesh Yadav’s over. He again managed to collect runs from Southee’s over and smacked consecutive fours.
Watching the pace bowlers go for runs, Virat decided to bring in Yuzvendra Chahal to try and nick out Chris Lynn. The Australian basher welcomed him with a boundary. Next ball, Chahal immediately made a comeback and induced an inside edge on the ball that Lynn failed to read. The symptoms were clear.
The fourth ball of the Chahal’s over was the deadly one. He just floated one leg break on the leg stump of Chris Lynn. The batsman took the chance but failed to connect. The leading edge was in the air for a long time and Murugan Ashwin stationed at extra over had lots of time to settle under it. The debutant failed to get hold of the ball and eventually dropped it after two juggles.
The chance proved to be crucial not just because Lynn played well later but it could have given RCB a lot of momentum, instead, it let them down. Lynn who was let go on 7, added 55 more runs to the tally and guided Kolkata Knight Riders throughout the chase. The adage of ‘Catches wins you matches’ has not survived so long for no reason.
