IPL 2018: Match 37 (MI vs KKR) – Hits and Flops

During the 37th match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Mumbai, Mumbai Indians beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 13 runs as they registered their fourth win of the season.

After Dinesh Karthik won the toss and put the home team in to bat, Mumbai Indians scored 181-4 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. Their innings was powered by Suryakumar Yadav’s fifth IPL half-century, fourth of this season. He ended up scoring 59 (39) with the help of seven fours and two sixes.

In the second innings, Kolkata Knight Riders lost their openers cheaply. However, Robin Uthappa’s 23rd IPL half-century held their innings together. Once Uthappa got out, problems started to arise for the visitors who failed to cope-up with the rising required run rate. Kolkata scored 168-6 in 20 overs.

Hits

Suryakumar Yadav scored another IPL half-century.

Suryakumar Yadav (MI) – Opening the batting with Evin Lewis, Suryakumar Yadav scored his fourth half-century of the season. He shared a 91-run stand with Lewis which laid foundation for the rest of the batsmen. He scored 59 (39) with the help of seven fours and two sixes.

Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya (MI) – Adjourned as the ‘Man of the Match’, Hardik Pandya stood tall on the dual responsibility bestowed upon him. Promoted up the order, he came in to bat at No. 4 in the 12th over. He ended up scoring 35* (20) with the help of four fours and a six. With the ball in hand, he was Mumbai Indians’ pick of the bowlers, registering bowling figures of 4-0-19-2.

Robin Uthappa (KKR) – Coming in to bat at No. 3 in the third over, Robin Uthappa steered his team out from a difficult position. He scored his first half-century of the season, 54 (35), with the help of six fours and three sixes.

Flops

Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma (MI) – Coming in to bat at No. 3 in the 10th over, Rohit Sharma was yet again found wanting against Sunil Narine. He failed to count on the foundation laid by his openers, scoring 11 (11) with the help of one four.

 

Chris Lynn

Chris Lynn (KKR) – Kolkata Knight Riders required Chris Lynn to fire at the top of the order in a 182-run chase. That being said, Lynn failed to last past four boundaries. He scored 17 (13) with the help of four fours.

Shubman Gill (KKR) – Having scored a match-winning maiden IPL half-century, Shubman Gill was promoted up the order to open the innings. Gill couldn’t make this chance count as he scored 7 (5).
