In the 41st game of IPL 2018, Mumbai Indians (MI) claimed an important victory after thrashing the hosts Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 102 runs at Eden Gardens (Kolkata) on Wednesday night. MI scored 210/6 at the end of 20 overs while KKR only managed to score 108 runs before they were bowled out in 18.1 overs.
KKR captain Dinesh Karthik elected to bowl first after winning the toss. With the help of top-orders important knocks, MI put a big total on the board.
The openers Suryakumar Yadav and Evin Lewis provided a good start with the 46-run partnership. While Lewis was dismissed on 18 runs, Yadav stretched his innings to 36 runs.
At next, skipper Rohit Sharma provided a quick 82-run partnership with Ishan Kishan for the third wicket which settled them for a good total. Ishan impressed with the bat as he completed the half-century in just 17 balls, which was the joint fastest IPL half-century by a MI batsman. He was dismissed on 62 runs off just 21 balls with 5 fours and 6 sixes.
Skipper Rohit played an important knock of 36 runs off 31 balls. At the end, Ben Cutting played a fast cameo knock as he scored 24 off just 9 balls (only four and 3 sixes). That knock helped his team to cross the 200-run mark as MI put 210/6 in 20 overs.
Among the KKR bowlers, expensive Piyush Chawla (3/43) got three wickets while Prasidh Krishna, Tom Curran and Sunil Narine picked up one wicket each.
In reply, KKR totally failed to put at least some fights as they were bundled out for just 108 runs. The hosts’ batsmen literally threw their wickets as they had poor shot selections and bad run-outs. Only two batsmen reached the 20-run mark as Chris Lynn and Nitish Rana both scored 21 runs before their dismissals.
All the MI bowlers picked up at least a wicket as the ‘Pandya brothers’ Krunal Pandya and Hardik Pandya got two wickets each while Mitchell McClenaghan, Jasprit Bumrah, Mayank Markande and Ben Cutting claimed one wicket each.

Didn’t bat in the last game, asked to float in early today.. Up against one of the best spin attacks in a must win game – Ishan Kishan’s knock today was as good as it gets. In a line up full of superstars, the kid stole the show! 👏🏻👏🏻 #KKRvMI

He's disappointed is Ishan Kishan but he's changed the direction of this innings for #MI

Mumbai Indians doing what they do best, turning it around in style. From being number 8 to being in the top 4, this is a remarkable effort from @mipaltan .Just the consistency to do this is amazing. KKR were clueless against Mumbai's intensity. #KKRvMI

Thought about that no-ball…yes, the umpire got it wrong. But how about cricket failing him? Everyone saw it…including the umpire (it was shown on the big screen before the next ball was bowled) but he didn’t have the power to seek help or rectify. Unfortunate. #KKRvMI

22 runs from the final over. KKR are too funky for their own liking. They don't make sense whatever research and top brains they seem to have.

This is the highest score at the Eden Gardens in an IPL game. For #KKR to win, they have to better the record.

#KKR need to arrest this phase quickly. Need more from their big players, Lynn, Uthappa and Russell

If there's an obviously wrong no-ball call by the on-field umpire, the 3rd ump should have the power to intervene (just as he does when checking for no balls at the time of a dismissal). #IPL #KKRvMI
