On Thursday night, the hosts Delhi Daredevils (DD) suffered another poor defeat and this time against the in-form Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Feroz Shah Kotla (Delhi).
Delhi captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bat first. With the help of Rishabh Pant’s powerful unbeaten century knock, Delhi put a good total of 187 runs on the board for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs.
In reply, SRH easily chased down the target through a brilliant unbroken second-wicket partnership for 176 runs between the opener Shikhar Dhawan and the skipper Kane Williamson. They chased down the target in 18.5 overs after losing just one wicket.
Now, we will briefly talk about some important reasons for DD’s defeat in this game.
Early top-order dismissals
Coming to bat in the first innings, DD lost their top three batsmen very early. Openers Prithvi Shaw and Jason Roy departed on 9 and 11 runs respectively while no.3 in-form skipper batsman Shreyas Iyer only managed to score 3 runs. As a result, DD was once 43/3 in 7.4 overs.
While it was the good batting pitch, that poor start became a barrier for them to put a huge total on the board.

Poor run-outs
Due to the poor understandings in running between the wickets, skipper Shreyas Iyer and the set batsman Harshal Patel threw their wickets through the run-outs at the important stages. Those two blunders became very costly for the hosts as they failed to put a big total on the batting-friendly pitch.
Only one man show in batting
Apart from Rishabh Pant’s remarkable unbeaten 128 runs off 63 balls, none of other Delhi batsmen performed wisely in that innings. The second highest run scorer in that innings was Harshal Patel who scored just 24 runs off 17 balls.
While Pant batted superbly and played a big knock for his team till the end, the other Delhi batsmen scored total 56 runs off 57 balls which were very pathetic in terms of T20 cricket. Other Delhi batsmen should perform much better than what they did in this game.

Weak bowling (failed to take wickets)
Delhi bowlers also performed very weakly in this game as they failed to pick up wickets. Apart from the opener Alex Hales’ early dismissal, the hosts failed to take any other wicket in that entire innings. As a result, SRH didn’t face any difficulties to chase a good total.
While Delhi captain used total seven bowlers in that innings, every bowler had 8 or more economy rate. Bowlers hardly seemed competitive as they totally failed to create the wicket-taking opportunities.
