These two teams last collided against each other at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur in the 15th match of the IPL played on 18th April. Kolkata Knight Riders emerged victorious by seven wickets on that night with Nitish Rana adjudged as the Man of the Match.

Rajasthan Royal batted first and got to only 160 in the first innings. Rahane had started well with four boundaries to Narine in an over but after his dismissal, no one except Buttler could accelerate the innings. Kolkata chased it with ease as almost all the batsmen contributed equally.
