During the 55th match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Delhi Daredevils (DD) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at Delhi, Delhi Daredevils beat Mumbai Indians by 11 runs to register their fifth win of the tournament and deny Mumbai Indians a place in the play-offs.

After Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bat, Delhi Daredevils scored 174-4 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. After losing their openers cheaply in the powerplay, Rishabh Pant stood tall to score his eighth IPL half-century, rescuing his team from a spot of bother.

In the second innings, the visitors lost wickets at regular intervals which eventually made things difficult for them. On a slow Delhi wicket, Mumbai Indians struggled in the middle overs. During the slog overs, it appeared as if Ben Cutting would steer them though the chase, but they ended up scoring 163-10 in 19.3 overs.

Hits

Pant scored his eighth IPL half-century.

Rishabh Pant (DD) – Rishabh Pant came in to bat at No. 4 in the fifth over. As had been the norm of the season for the Daredevils, Pant came in with his team in a spot of bother. He ended up scoring 64 (44) with the help of four fours and four sixes. In the process, Pant also got hold of the orange cap, scoring 684 runs in 14 matches at an average of 52.61 and a strike rate of 173.60.

Sandeep Lamichhane (DD) – Opening the bowling for Delhi Daredevils, Sandeep Lamichhane picked up the wicket of Suryakumar Yadav in his first over itself. His economy rate was surely on the higher side but his wicket-taking ability saw him dismissing Kieron Pollard and Krunal Pandya in the match. He registered bowling figures of 4-0-36-3.

Amit Mishra (DD) – Amit Mishra was introduced into the attack in the first over after the powerplay. Without wasting much time, he picked up the wicket of Ishan Kishan on the first delivery that he bowled. In his following overs, he dismissed Evin Lewis and Hardik Pandya to dent Mumbai Indians in the chase. Adjourned as the ‘Man of the Match’, he registered bowling figures of 4-0-19-3.

Shreyas Iyer (DD) – Coming in the bat at No. 3 in the fourth over, Iyer failed to play a substantial innings. He was dismissed in the ninth over, scoring 6 (10).

Ishan Kishan (MI) – Coming in to bat at No. 3 in the first over itself, Ishan Kishan played five overs in the powerplay but failed to get going. In a 175-run chase, he consumed many balls in the first six overs, scoring 5 (13).

Kieron Pollard (MI) – Coming in to bat at No. 4 in the seventh over, Kieron Pollard struggled against the spin in the middle overs. After being dropped in the over in which he came out to bat, he gave another chance in the 10th over of the innings. He ended up scoring 7 (7).
