In the 55th game of IPL 2018, the hosts Delhi Daredevils (DD) knocked out the defending IPL champions Mumbai Indians (MI) by 11 runs at Feroz Shah Kotla (Delhi) on Sunday evening. DD managed to score 174/4 in 20 overs while MI was bowled out for 163 runs in 19.3 overs.

DD captain Shreyas Iyer decided to bat first after winning the toss. After the top three batsmen departed in low scores, wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant and Vijay Shankar took the responsibility to secure a good total for the hosts.

While the openers Prithvi Shaw and Glenn Maxwell were dismissed on 12 and 22 runs respectively, skipper and the no.3 batsman Shreyas Iyer departed on just 6 runs. Then, Pant and Vijay provided an important 64-run partnership for the fourth wicket. That partnership helped DD to grow up that innings.

In-form Pant scored another half-century as this time he scored 64 runs before getting caught out. Vijay stretched his innings till the end with Abhishek Sharma as they put another crucial unbroken 35 runs partnership for the fifth wicket. Vijay was unbeaten at the end on 43 runs off 30 balls while Abhishek Sharma was not out on 15 runs off 10 balls.

With the help of those innings, DD managed to put 174/4 on the board at the end of 20 overs.

Among the Mumbai bowlers, Krunal Pandya (1/11), Jasprit Bumrah (1/29) and Mayank Markande (1/21) got one wicket each.

Chasing down that target, most of Mumbai batsmen disappointed. While the opener Evin Lewis scored 48 runs, the other top-order and top middle-order batsmen failed to provide enough help to him.

In the end, Hardik Pandya and Ben Cutting fought hard but just failed to secure the victory. After Lewis, they were the only two other MI batsmen to reach the 20-run mark in that innings as Hardik scored 27 runs off just 17 balls while Cutting played a remarkable knock of 37 runs off just 20 balls. Those two brilliant late knocks helped MI to come closer to the target but ultimately they failed to achieve that as MI was bowled out for 163 runs in 19.3 overs.

Among the DD bowlers, Amit Mishra, Sandeep Lamichhane and Harshal Patel picked up three wickets each while Trent Boult claimed another wicket.
