Rajasthan Royals (RR) clinched their first victory in the IPL season after beating Delhi Daredevils (DD) in the rain-marred encounter at Sawai Mansingh Stadium (Jaipur). While the hosts Rajasthan managed to score 153/5 (17.5 overs) before the rain, Delhi needed 71 runs in 6 overs for their victory but at the end, they were 11 runs short from the target.

Rain played a major role in this game

Delhi skipper Gautam Gambhir decided to field first after winning the toss. While Rajasthan opener D’Arcy Short was again run-out, another opener and skipper Ajinkya Rahane took the responsibilityย to build up the innings.

While Ben Stokes (16 runs) again returned to the pavilion cheaply, Sanju Samson put an important 62-run partnership for the third wicket. Samson was dismissed for 37 runs off 22 balls.

Later, Rahane departed for 45 off 40 balls while Jos Buttler took the charge to add some quick runs. Buttler was dismissed on 29 off 18 balls while Rahul Tripathi remained unbeaten on 15 runs (11 balls). Before the end of their innings, rain interrupted the match as that time Rajasthan scored 153/5 in 17.5 overs.

Among the Delhi bowlers, Shahbaz Nadeem (2/34) picked up two wickets while Trent Boult (1/26) and Mohammed Shami (1/29) took one wicket each.

The rain stopped the game around two and a half hours as Delhi needed to chase 71 runs in 6 overs.

While the skipper Gautam Gambhir didn’t come to bat in that short innings, Glenn Maxwell and Colin Munro came as the opening batsmen for Delhi. In the very first ball of that innings, Delhi suffered a blow as the non-striker end batsman Munro was run-out.

Delhi was continuously struggling to fight with the big required run-rate as they failed to get that at the end. Delhi scored 60/4 at the end of 6 overs as the hosts won by 10 runs in D/L method.

Among the Delhi batsmen, Rishabh Pant scored highest runs 20 off 14 balls while Chris Morris Maxwell both scored 17 runs.

Among the Rajasthan bowlers, Ben Laughlin (2/20) took 2 wickets while Jaydev Unadkat (1/24) picked up one wicket.
