Mumbai Indians defeated Kings XI Punjab in the last-ball thriller played out at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. After piling up 186 runs in the first innings, Mumbai bowling kept the Punjabi team as quiet as possible. KL Rahul played one of the most epic solo innings of 94 from 60 balls but eventually failed short of the target.

Going into the last two overs, Kings XI Punjab needed 23 runs from the last 12 balls. With Bumrah to bowl the penultimate over, the task was always going to be an uphill one for KXIP. KL Rahul’s presence was paramount as he was going berserk against bowling.

The third ball of the over from Bumrah was a slower one which KL Rahul tried hard swinging at. The ball did not go long and it was Ben Cutting who took the catch without faltering. From then on the game was Mumbai’s to be won and they did so. Bumrah ended up with the bowling figures of 15/3 in his four overs.

Earlier, it was Chris Gayle who added quick runs to the tally and was looking menacing tonight. The universe boss added 18 runs from 11 balls with two boundaries and a six. It was then Finch and in-form orange cap owner KL Rahul who took hold of the innings. Knowing the fragile batting to follow, Rahul and Finch played chance-less innings to take KXIP closer.

Mumbai Indians batted first and riding on contributions from Krunal Pandya and Kieron Pollard, they managed to put on 186/8 in the first innings despite Andrew Tye picking 4/16.
