Mumbai Indians finally broke the losing streak in the IPL 2018 as they defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by a huge margin of 46 runs at the Wankhede Stadium, despite Virat Kohli battling hard from one end. The Defending Champions Mumbai had batted first thrice in the tournament and had lost all the matches on the last ball. This time they scored a humongous total of 214 runs which RCB could not cross.

The biggest turning point of the match occurred in the fifth over of the RCB batting. Understanding the need of going hard from the start, captain Virat Kohli opened the innings along with Quinton De Kock. The chase had to be quick from the start.

Kolhi and De Kock played out the first over cautiously from Jasprit Bumrah taking only three runs from the first five balls. Kohli struck a boundary on the last ball to make the over count. Next over the openers took charge and smashed 13 runs in the over to bring back RCB in the game.

At the end of the first four overs, RCB looked well set to give an honest attempt at chasing the mammoth target. It all changed at the end of the fifth over. RCB was 40/0 with Quinton De Kock facing the Kiwi bowler Mithcell McClenaghan.

The first ball, De Kock, charged out at McClenaghan, the ball pitched on the good length, avoided De Kock’s bat and crashed on his off-stump. The South African wicketkeeper walked back for 19(12). He was replaced by compatriot, the magical AB De Villiers. With ABD and Kohli at the crease, anything was possible.

AB De Villiers came back on strike for the fourth ball. McClenaghan bowled it short and straight, ABD whipped it out with a pull only to find a fielder waiting to take his catch. As ABD walked back, the chances of RCB chase jumped off the building. The match was gone and Kohli soon went back into the shell and made sure the winning margin was not enormous.
