During the ninth match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils at Mumbai, Mumbai Indians’ new opening pair of Suryakumar Yadav and Evin Lewis took the Daredevils’ bowling attack apart as the duo raced to 84-0 in the first six overs.

Gautam Gambhir, the captain of Delhi Daredevils, had won the toss and chose to field. Indians had sent in Yadav in place of captain of Rohit Sharma alongside Lewis. Yadav and Lewis were amongst the runs from the first over itself.

Trent Boult, who bowled the first over for the Daredevils, conceded 15 runs in his first over. Both the openers had scored a boundary each against the New Zealand quickie. Gambhir into spin in the second over in the form of Shahbaz Nadeem. MI added another 10 runs in the second over.

Mumbai Indians registered their highest score in the powerplay.

Boult, who continued from the other end, ended up conceding another 15 runs in his second over. A four from Yadav and a six from Lewis made sure that Mumbai registered its fastest ever IPL half-century. Mohammad Shami replaced Boult, but couldn’t change the fortunes as he too went for 14 runs in his first over.

Daniel Christian, who replaced Chris Morris in the playing eleven today, bowled the last over of the powerplay. Lewis took on the Australian all-rounder as he hit three fours and a six as Mumbai Indians scored their highest ever powerplay score in the IPL.

At the end of the powerplay, Yadav was unbeaten on 41* (20), whereas Lewis had scored 37* (16).
