Sunday was the last round-robin game-day in IPL 2018 and it was the must-win game-day for Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) to qualify for the playoffs. However, both teams lost their respective games and knocked out from the tournament. While KXIP’s game started after MI’s defeat, KXIP co-owner Preity Zinta seemed to say happy on MI’s knock out from the tournament. Later, she also clarified the reason for her statement.

While only one team could reach the playoffs, defending champions Mumbai Indians had to win the game against the hosts Delhi Daredevils (DD) at Feroz Shah Kotla (Delhi) while KXIP had to achieve a victory by huge margin against the hosts Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium (Pune).

On Sunday evening, MI suffered a defeat against the hosts DD by 11 runs and knocked out from the tournament. However, KXIP still had the tough chance to qualify for the playoffs as they had to win with a big margin against the hosts CSK.

In that game, CSK captain MS Dhoni decided to field first after winning the toss. Despite the poor top-order batting collapse, KXIP managed to put the 153 runs (153 in 19.4 overs) on the board due to some good middle-order batting performances. It meant KXIP should restrict CSK for 100 or lower runs to qualify for the playoffs.

However, KXIP failed on their mission as CSK chased down that target successfully in 19.1 overs after losing 5 wickets.

During that game, Preity Zinta seemed to tell someone, “I am very happy that Mumbai is knocked out…. finally happy.”

It was trending on the internet. Later, the Bollywood actress clarified the meaning of her words.

She posted on her Twitter account, “Relax! Only if Mumbai was “Knocked Out” Punjab would have had a chance of getting to the playoffs but RR (Rajasthan Royals) was happier we were knocked out by CSK (Chennai Super Kings) because they got to go to playoffs! When you leave it till the end one has to not just see your wins but other teams losses as well.”

Preity also congratulated the four teams who qualified for the playoffs in the ongoing IPL 2018. She wrote on her Twitter account, “Disappointed in the loss tonight but Congrats #csk #srh #rr & #kkr for making it to the playoffs Its always tough when you leave it till the last game. Next year we will come back stronger @lionsdenkxip #CSKvsKXIP”

Later, she also expressed her disappointment on KXIP’s exit from the IPL 2018 despite a dominating start. Preity posted on her Twitter account, “Who would have thought that after winning 5 out of 6 games in the beginning @lionsdenkxip would have ended the #Ipl on this note. I’m sorry to all our fans & supporters for not being up to the mark this season. Next year we won’t let you down. #disappointed”
