In the Qualifier 2 of IPL 2018, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) clinched a brilliant 14-run victory against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens (Kolkata) on Friday night and advanced to the final of the tournament.

KKR captain Dinesh Karthik decided to field first after winning the toss. SRH managed to score 174/7 at the end of 20 overs. In reply, KKR was restricted to 160/9 at the end of 20 overs.

Result – SRH won by 14 runs

i) Three overseas cricketers played for KKR in this match.

  • First team to field less than four overseas cricketers in an IPL knockout/playoff match.

 

ii) SRH cricketer Khaleel Ahmed made his IPL debut in this game.

  • Third cricketer to make an IPL debut in the playoff stages. The first two cricketers were Nayan Doshi (for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the third-place playoff stage of IPL 2010) and Sunny Gupta (for Delhi Daredevils in the Qualifier 2 of IPL 2012).

iii) SRH opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan has scored 4,032 runs in IPL career.

  • Eighth batsman to score 4,000 or more IPL runs.

iv) SRH cricketer Rashid Khan (34 runs off 10 balls) had a brilliant batting strike-rate of 340.

  • Scoring 30 or more runs in an innings, it is highest batting strike-rate in the IPL history for an SRH cricketer.
  • Scoring 30 or more runs in an innings, it is the second highest batting strike-rate for a batsman in an IPL knockout/playoff match. The record is 348 by Chennai Super Kings batsman Suresh Raina (87 runs off 25 balls) against Kings XI Punjab at Mumbai on May 30, 2014.

v) KKR wicketkeeper-captain Dinesh Karthik scored total 498 runs in the IPL 2018.

  • Most runs scored in an IPL season by wicketkeeper-captain. The previous record was 495 runs by the Deccan Chargers’ wicketkeeper-captain Adam Gilchrist in IPL 2009.

vi) SRH cricketer Rashid Khan was unbeaten on 34 runs off 10 balls and had an impressive bowling figure of 4-0-19-3.

  • Fourth cricketer to score 30+ runs and also to take 3 or more wickets in an IPL knockout/playoff match. The first three such cricketers were Shane Watson (for Rajasthan Royals in 2008 semi-final), Yusuf Pathan (for Rajasthan Royals in 2008 final) and Kieron Pollard (for Mumbai Indians in 2010 semi-final)
