IPL 2018: Rajasthan Royals Bought Kumar Birla’s son Aryaman Vikram Birla

The young all-rounder from Madhya Pradesh was bought for INR 30 lakh in the recently concluded IPL 2018 auctions. Rajasthan Royals bought Aryaman Vikram Birla, son of industrialist and the chairman of Aditya Birla Group Kumar Mangalam Birla. The IPL 2018 auction had quoted a base price of INR 20 lakh for the player.

Aryman failed to attract any bidders in the first round of auction. However, in the post-lunch session on Day 2, Aryaman’s name was brought up in the unsold list and Rajasthan Royals grabbed him for the given money. Birla jr is a left-hand batsman and a slow left-arm orthodox bowler has played only one first-class match while representing Madhya Pradesh against Odisha in Indore in November 2017.

The young player took to Twitter, thanking Rajasthan Royals. He also went on to say, “Being a part of this team is a real honor and an amazing opportunity for me. I think there is going to be so much to learn from the team.”

Rajasthan Royals is making a comeback to the Indian Premier League (IPL) after getting banned two years. Rajasthan entered the auction with a bang, picking up last year’s most expensive player Ben Stokes at a whopping prize of INR 12.5 crore.

Out of the total purse size of INR 80 crore, Rajasthan Royals has INR 1.65 crore remaining. It spent its funds on a total of 23 players. UltraTech Cement Limited, a subsidiary of the Birla group of companies, has been the principal team sponsor for Rajasthan Royals.

While riches of all kinds would have come to Aryman easily, he has chosen to take a hard path to achieve his dream of playing cricket and if you ask him, he says playing cricket comes naturally to him.

As quoted in Deccan Chronicle, Birla Jr. said, “I’ve played cricket my entire life. I was eight, maybe nine-years-old when I started playing. I played a lot of sports when I was very little, but cricket was the one that stood out for me. There was no definite moment when I realized I wanted to pursue it as my career; it was a natural progression from it being a hobby to now playing it professionally.”

The other players in the Rajasthan team include Jaydev Unadkat who was bought for INR 11.5 crore, Sanju Samson for INR 8 crore, Jofra Archer for INR 7 crore, Krishnappa Gowtham for INR 6.20 crore, and Ajinkya Rahane for INR 4 crore.
