Delhi Daredevils squad for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is looking revamped and strong. In the first five editions of IPL, DD managed to reach the playoffs on three occasions but since 2012, their graph only went down and they haven’t reached the playoffs since then. DD’s new coach, Ricky Ponting doesn’t care much about what has happened for the franchise in last five years as he is expecting an exciting brand of cricket by his players. Daredevils will play their maiden encounter of IPL 11 against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on April 8 (Sunday).
During a media interaction on Thursday, Ponting said, “I have told this to the management. I don’t care about the past. We have got a fresh group capable of winning the IPL. It is my job, management’s as well as the players to give the best crack possible. I can assure you the boys are going to be well prepared and if they can execute their plans on the field, there is no reason why we can’t win.”

Ricky further added, “If they think I have been aggressive so far, I don’t even start yet (drawing laughter). I have tried to be more motivational more than anything else. Tried to sort of get my point across that how important team culture and the environment is. I understand there is already a lot of talk about aggressive cricket just because I am the coach. Actually, we have not even spoken about it till now. We have spoken about playing high-intensity cricket with a never say die attitude. Anyway, when you talk about aggression, you mean whatever you can do to win games.”
Most of the cricketing pundits have felt that the combination of Ponting-Gambhir can go either way because of their similar nature; i.e. aggressive. Talking on the same lines, Ponting said that they both always look for a win in any match situation and that si what getting reflected on players as well.

Sitting alongside Ponting, former KKR skipper Gambhir too was excited about the season beginning Saturday, he said, “I started with Delhi and it is always great to come back to a place where you started. Hopefully, we can the title this time, we have got the team that can win. Hopefully, I can finish my career here. It is a fresh start. The moment we start winning games, people will start believing in us.”
