During the 11th match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajsthan Royals at Bengaluru, Rajasthan Royals’ Sanju Samson put his team in a strong position as he hit his eight IPL half-century, the first of this season.
Virat Kohli, captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore, had won the toss and chose to field. Royals cashed in on the start given to them by captain Ajinkya Rahane (36). Samson, who came in to bat at No. 3 in the sixth over, did not waste much time in getting started with his business.
Having completed his half-century without scoring a four, Samson entered the record books when he surpassed Nitish Rana (62) as the batsman with most runs in an IPL match without a four. He was batting on 71* when he hit his first four of the match.
On the penultimate delivery of the 18th over, Samson hit a Kulwant Khejroliya delivery for a towering six over long off. Riding his on form, he hit another monumental six over the bowler’s head on the following delivery.
