During the 51st match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Shikhar Dhawan crossed the line in terms of back-pedalling after taking a catch on the boundary.
Earlier Kane Williamson, captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad, had won the toss and chose to field. Sunrisers Hyderabad rested Bhuvneshwar Kumar for this match, replacing him with Thampi. On the other hand, Royal Challengers Bangalore fielded an unchanged playing eleven.
Opening the batting with Parthiv Patel (1) and Virat Kohli (12), Royal Challengers Bangalore lost their openers cheaply inside the powerplay. Moeen Ali, who came in to bat at No. 4 in the fifth over, broke the shackles to give his team much-needed momentum.
Sandeep Sharma, who opened the bowling for the Sunrisers, had almost had Ali caught at the boundary. It was a goof-up Shikhar Dhawan which converted the dismissal into a six. On the penultimate delivery of the 10th over, Ali flat-batted a Sharma delivery to Dhawan at long-on. Dhawan judged the catch to perfection but did not realise that he was too close to the boundary to take a couple of steps backwards. As a result, he touched the boundary and the batsman was awarded a six.
