Sunrisers Hyderabad prevailed against the flamboyant Delhi Daredevils in a close-fought match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. Delhi batted well in the first innings and posted a good total of 163/5. Amit Mishra brought DD back in the match with crucial wickets but in the end, SRH managed to win the match with one ball and seven wickets remaining.

Mishra broke the 76-run opening stand.

The start for Sunrisers Hyderabad was exceptional as Alex Hales opened his hand. He was benefitted by Glenn Maxwell who dropped an easy catch of him very early in the innings. Hales and Dhawan then went on the rampage and scored 61 in the powerplay.

Amit Mishra then with all his experience and bowling guile removed both the Hyderabadi openers and brought Delhi back in the match. Kane Williamson was fighting hard from one end and after Pandey’s dismissal, he found an able partner in Yusuf Pathan.

Yusuf was dropped on the second ball he faced by Vijay Shankar. The drop proved crucial as we will see later. By the end of 18th over, Hyderabad needed 28 runs from the last 12 balls. The game could have gone either way with one good over for anyone. Trent Boult gave half the runs in his penultimate over.

The last over was handed to Daniel Christian and they needed only 14 runs. After taking two runs of the first ball, Yusuf Pathan smashed a six and a four on the next two balls. The game was in Sunrisers bag now and they completed the win with one ball remaining. Pathan’s innings proved to be the turning point.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Earlier, Prithvi Shaw put up a show with his stellar batting. He was severe on anything in his arc. Against the most respected bowling attack in the competition, Prithvi scored 65 runs from just 36 balls with six fours and three sixes. When he got out, DD in was 95/2 in 10.1 overs. A very commanding position.

From there SRH clawed their way back and gave just 68 runs in the next 59 balls. They managed to contain Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer. Rashid Khan took 2/23 in his four overs. It was Vijay Shankar’s 13-ball 23 in the end that took Delhi past 160-runs mark.
