In another stunning display of exemplary bowling and a great level of Punjab collapse helped us witness another stunning T20 match. SRH batting first scored only 132 and the total looked well below par. When KL Rahul and Chris Gayle started opening up their hands, one felt that the match would end early tonight. Hyderabad disagreed.
Never giving up, SRH kept striking one after another. However, they looked far away from a win when KXIP was coasting at 55/0. Rashid Khan started the collapse as he left KL Rahul in awe with a stunning delivery that kissed the off-stump without Rahul’s permission. Chris Gayle’s wicket was snared up Basil Thampi soon.
Mayank Agarwal and Karun Nair started rebuilding the innings. With such low target, KXIP was still in the match downright. Agarwal was snapped up the Bangla All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. Rashid Khan again came into the action and defeated Nair with his googly. The match was alive now.
The turning point came in the next over. Aaron Finch stepped up with his position under the threat. He smacked a six on the first ball of Shakib’s over. Next ball, Finch in hope of repeating the result went after the next ball as well. Manish Pandey spoiled the plans and took the catch. KXIP 88/5.
The responsibility of scoring now fell upon Manoj Tiwary who was playing his first match of the season and Ravi Ashwin who is not a renowned hitter. Sandeep Sharma stopped Tiwary from raising the hopes of Punjab and got him out. Sandeep removed Tye two balls after and the equation now read 37 from 25 balls.
The situation kept worsening for KXIP and finally, they were shot down for only 119. Chasing only 133 runs to win, KXIP managed to lose by 13 runs when at one stage they needed 78 runs with all ten wickets in hand. SRH’s bowling in the middle overs was the turning point of the match.
