Sunrisers Hyderabad again came out strong defending a small total against the mighty batting line-up of Royal Challengers Bangalore at their home ground. RCB chose to chase despite knowing that defending the total is the strength of Hyderabad so far. They came close in the chase and were left needing six runs from the last ball. De Grandhomme was bowled on the last ball and RCB now find themselves distraught.
The turning point of the match was the last two overs of Sunrisers Hyderabad bowled by their experts Siddarth Kaul and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. In the chase of 147 runs, Royal Challengers needed 39 runs from 24 balls. Rashid Khan, who had bowled brilliantly so far, was called into the attack.
Colin De Grandhomme, a late entrant in the RCB playing XI smacked him for two consecutive sixes. The match should have been over at that point for the batting team. Rashid did not give any more run in the over and now RCB needed 25 runs from the last three overs.
Next over was handed to Buvneshwar Kumar and he had two overs in his hands. Despite conceding a boundary in the over, Bhuvneshwar only conceded six runs from the over and now RCB were left needing 19 runs from 12 balls. A place in playoffs was on the line.
Siddarth Kaul who was now generating reverse swing bowled an excellent over and gave away just seven runs. The over halted RCB from running away from the game and gave Bhuvneshvar 12 runs to defend in the last over. The last over bowled then by Bhuvi was an exhibition of how to bowl the last over. He varied his line, length and speed so effectively that RCB failed to get past him.
Sunrisers Hyderabad pulled off a stunning win by 5 runs. Earlier, batting first at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad, SRH managed to score 146 in their 20 overs. Royal Challengers Bangalore bowled well for the better part of the innings and they were exceptional at the end. Pathan scored a brisk 12 from 6 balls to give some momentum to the sluggish inning but they ended up poorly.
