During the 34th match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at Indore, Kings XI Punjab scored 174-6 in their allotted quota of 20 overs.
After Rohit Sharma won the toss and put Kings XI Punjab in to bat, the home team started in the affirmative as Lokesh Rahul and Chris Gayle stitched a 54-run stand for the first wicket. In the powerplay, they scored 49 runs without losing a wicket.
Gayle per se was looking set to play a notable knock. At the halfway mark, Punjab’s score had reached 78-1. However, wickets fell and so did the run rate to the extent that Punjab’s innings looked in shambles at one point in time.
It was Karun Nair and Marcus Stoinis who chipped in with impact-generating cameos, which helped Kings XI Punjab to post a handsome total. Gayle ended up top-scoring for Kings XI as he scored his 24th IPL half-century, 50 (40), with the help of six fours and two sixes. With bowling figures of 4-0-19-1, Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors.

Punjab’s approach has been very strange – and lame, today. Can’t digest their struggle – the lack of intent honestly – on this placid Indore pitch #KXIPvMI

"The main reason for Gayle's success this year is his patience. He is waiting for the right bowler to attack. Very unlike Gayle".
He is bringing his experience to the fore.

Mumbai Indians repeated the same mistake as the one made in the last game. Brilliant till the 19th over and turning things topsy turvy in the last over. 22 off it, very very disheartening to see this! #KXIPvMI
