During the eighth match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab at Bengaluru, Umesh Yadav dented Kings XI Punjab’s progress to an extent that the visiting side could not come back into the match.
After Virat Kohli had put Punjab in to bat, the visiting team raced to 32-0 in 3 overs. Just when Lokesh Rahul and Mayank Agarwal had started to make inroads in the powerplay, Yadav made sure that he brought his team back into the game by picking up three wickets in the same over.
Umesh continued from one end in the powerplay. In his second over, he started by picking up the wicket of Mayank Agarwal (15) on the first ball. Aaron Finch (0), who had been included in the playing eleven in place of David Miller, walked in at No. 3. Finch’s stay on the crease did not last long as he was out on the first ball that he faced. Into full rhythm, Yadav trapped the Australian opener plumb in front of the stumps. Even a review was unable to save Finch.
Yuvraj Singh replaced Finch in the middle. After getting off the mark with a boundary, Yuvraj too took the long walk back to the pavilion after Yadav bowled him comprehensively on the last delivery of the over. Yadav’s oversaw him taking three wickets at the cost of four runs.
