During the 31st match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at Bengaluru, chasing 168 runs to win, Mumbai Indians was wrecked by the meld of Umesh Yadav and DRS (Decision Review System).

After Rohit Sharma won the toss and put the Royal Challengers in to bat, the home team rode heavily on Manan Vohra’s enterprising 45 (31). After the young man got out, Brendon McCullum and Virat Kohli looked set to play a substantial innings for their match. Having said that, the wicket of McCullum followed by Hardik Pandya taking three wickets in an over dented the home team to a great extent. Colin de Grandhomme’s late burst propelled the Royal Challengers to 167-7 in 20 overs.

Yadav picked up two wickets on consecutive deliveries.

In the second innings, Mumbai Indians didn’t get off to the best of starts, losing Ishan Kishan (0) in the first over itself. What further hurt them was Umesh Yadav’s second over. Yadav, who opened the bowling with Tim Southee, picked up two wickets in his second over.

On the first ball, he found Suryakumar Yadav (9) plumb in front of the stumps. The umpire ruled the batsman out against which Suryakumar Yadav opted for a review. The replays were evident enough for the third umpire to stick to the on-field umpire’s decision.

On the following delivery, Sharma was seen inside-edging a Umesh Yadav delivery which was exceptionally taken by Quinton de Kock behind the wickets. After the umpire did not rule the batsman out, Kohli immediately signaled for the review. Upon replays, it was clear that Sharma had edged the ball. The skipper of Mumbai Indians took the long walk back to the pavilion without contributing.
