IPL 2018: Week Two – Best Team of the Week

The Indian Premier League moved ahead in the second week with lot more entertainment and excitement coming our way. It was the week where the old warhorse in Chris Gayle returned to the IPL and played two very aggressive knocks. It was the week where finally the trend of winning the toss and field first was broken successfully. The week had few stunning individuals and team performances. Here is a look at the one team that performed better than other teams.

Dinesh Karthik and Nitish Rana (KKR)

The top team for the second week is Kolkata Knight Riders led by Dinesh Karthik. The team was briefly on the top of points table until it was ousted from there by Chennai Super Kings. Kolkata played three matches in the second week and managed to win two out of them. After conceding defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad, they proved strong against RR and DD.

The first match of the second week was a disaster for Kolkata Knight Riders. So far they had never lost to Hyderabad while playing at the Eden Gardens, the record was shattered this time around. Batting, KKR failed to get a good score on the board. None except Lynn got more 30 and Hyderabad cruised to a five wickets win.

KKR next faced the challenge of Delhi Daredevils at home. The batting which had failed against Hyderabad flourished this time around and mounted a total of 200/9. Rana did the bulk of the scoring while Russell came out with flying sixes. Their spinners did not give Delhi any chance of chasing it and KKR picked up a win by 71 runs.

After dismissing Delhi, Kolkata team traveled north-west to take on the home team of Rajasthan Royals. It Rajasthan this time who had to bat first and they could only score 160 runs in their turn. Curran and Rana picked two wickets each. The chase with Uthappa-Narine firing was a cakewalk.

Thus the two impressive wins catapulted KKR to the number one rank in the IPL Points table. Their bowlers especially spinner impressed while Nitish Rana’s bowling proved of a great help. Batting looked in its best touch. With all the departments firing, Kolkata emerged as the best team of the week.
