On Friday, the flamboyant KKR all-rounder, Andre Russell came out all guns blazing in the fourth consecutive match this season and snatched victory from the jaws of defeat for his team against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The stage was set for him as he had done a similar job against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Though many felt that this time, Russell will faile. He proved that wrong by smacking the RCB bowlers to all the parts of the ground to take the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the victory single-handedly.

Russell remained unbeaten on 48 off just 13 balls with a staggering strike-rate of close to 370 as the KKR raced home within a blink of an eye. They needed 53 off last three overs and won the game with as many as five balls to spare in the end. The opposition, RCB, was shocked and before they understood anything, the game had gone away from them. The Jamaican smashed seven sixes and a four during his match-winning knock.

While speaking to his teammate Carlos Brathwaite, Russell revealed his mindset about what went through his mind during the massacre. He was confident of chasing down the total and also said that in Bangalore due to the small boundaries the pressure is always on the bowlers.

Russell explained, “The thought-process was just to try and get as many sixes as possible. I knew sixes will bring down the run rate and bring down the target. That’s all my mindset. I was telling DK (Dinesh Karthik) that once we wait for the fast bowlers in the back end, I knew they were going to miss their length and pressure is going to be on them on this small ground.”

The Jamaican cricketers were also delighted to make the KKR fans happy as he said that he just loves to bat in such moments. He added, “I practice for just like these moments. From ball one, I start hitting at everything because I know sometimes I’m going to be in these situations where I go out and KKR would need 13-plus runs per over. At the end of the night, I’m happy and KKR fans are also happy.”
